Types Of Astigmatism - What Are Differents Type Of Astigmatism

Types Of Astigmatism - Astigmatism is a refractive error which makes vision blurred in some degree at any distance. Many people who suffer from myopia (commonly referred to as short-sighted) or hyperopia (known as hyperopic) also have astigmatism, while others only have astigmatism.
Astigmatism is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. Instead of being round perfect, like a basketball ball, a corneal astigmatic has elliptical shape, more like a rugby ball.

The light passing through an astigmatic cornea can not focus on a single point on the retina, but it focuses on several points, what makes it impossible for the eye to focus a clear image.
The majority of people with astigmatism using glasses or contact lenses to achieve a better view. Glasses and contact lenses are effective for the majority of people, they are not always ideal for everyone. Among the disadvantages of carrying glasses or lenses are the possibility of that loss or breakage, the discomfort of carrying them and in the case of the glasses, the change in physical appearance.

Types of astigmatism

There are several types of astigmatism:
  • Myopic astigmatism: occurs when either of the two principal meridians of the eye is myopic (where are both, should be in different degrees).
  • The hyperopic astigmatism: in this case, one or both main meridians are hyperopic (where are both, should be in different degrees).
  • Mixed astigmatism: A Meridian is short-sighted, and the other is hyperopic.

Astigmatism is also classified as regular or irregular. In regular astigmatism, the principal meridians are separate 90 degrees (perpendicular to each other). In irregular astigmatism, the principal meridians are perpendicular. The majority of corneal astigmatism is regular astigmatism (eye gives a form of football).
Regular astigmatism is usually also differentiate into 3 types.
Astigmatism direct (or according to the rule): the vertical Meridian is more pronounced (looks like a rugby ball)
Astigmatism reverse (or rule): the horizontal Meridian is more pronounced (looks like a rugby ball but vertical)
Oblique astigmatism: the angle of the curve is between 120 and 150 degrees and between 30 and 60 degrees.
Irregular astigmatism may appear due to a lesion in the eye causing scarring of the cornea. Also from certain types of eye surgery or by Keratoconus, a disease that causes a gradual thinning of the cornea.

In general, the condition is hereditary, already oblong cornea and shaped is something with which the person was born. In other cases, it may be caused by eye injury that has led to a cicactriz in the cornea of the person. It may also be caused by certain types of eye surgery, or a disease called keratoconus which causes a clarification of the patient's cornea.

Since astigmatism can sometimes go unnoticed even by adults, it is important that you know the signs so that you can discover in your child. A recent study was found by Dr. Karla Zadnik of the school of Optometry at Ohio State University show that more than 28 per cent of 2 523 children studied had astigmatism. This is a very high percentage, and is very difficult for children when this goes unnoticed. They may be already distorted or blurred vision without complaining, when their school work or sports activities already suffer from it.

1. one of the common signs that a child may have astigmatism is frequent headaches with apparently no cause. Typically centered behind the neck headaches may be associated with astigmatism, and a visit to the optometrist or ophthalmologist could confirm or reject your suspicion.

2. another clue is when your child brings notes of House you find unintelligible. This can point out that he has a problem seeing the Council notes to be copied correctly, and has resorted to scribbling regardless of lawsuits your imagination.

3. still one more way to tell if your child may have astigmatism is if you frequently grab you bizqueando to see something. Astigmatism can come with both nearsightedness and vision of the future, then you have to be vigilant. You may notice that their child who has a cast lee, but has no problem looking at distant objects, or vice versa. Only pay the concentration and if it appears that he has a cast more that you think necessary, schedule an eye exam for your child at once.

4. If your child plays a sport and you see him fumbling with a ball thrown from some distance away, perhaps you could put your hand coordination through the eye in doubt, but another possibility is he has astigmatism. Perhaps you would do well to check if it shows any of the other obvious symptoms.

If it is confirmed that your child has astigmatism, don't despair. Some types of astigmatism are easy to correct, such as the use of corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses, or refractive surgery. It can be a little embarrassing for your child if he is the first in its class to get glasses, but in this generation, there are fortunately many elegant glasses for children. You can go with him to the optometrist and make him choose sunglasses that he wants.

Or, if he is old enough, you can opt for contact lenses. Many children are afraid to be marked to an edge by wearing glasses, so if your child seems responsible enough to handle contact lenses, you can save him the humiliation. Although this used to be impossible to contact lenses correct astigmatism, now there are soft contact lenses that come built-in with a special correction. Just be sure to consult your ophthalmologist, since he would be the best person to know if the sight of your child may be corrected with contact lenses.

In some cases, astigmatism can be too severe for corrective glasses or contact lenses, but not to draw conclusions only even precipitated no matter as far-fetched you perceive the problem of sight of your child be. These are very few compared with total cases of astigmatism, and most likely the view of your child can be corrected during a few years of faithfully wearing their glasses. In fact, you will have to help you remember to keep your glasses on and encourage you to do so. When it is fully corrected, he can say goodbye to his glasses and enjoy the following years without the burden of taking his glasses everywhere.
