Causes of astigmatism
In the human eye, the cornea focuses images refracting the light that enters the eye on the retina (back of the eye). In an eye with perfect form, the cornea enjoys a curvature evenly and smoothly and has the shape of a round ball. Eyes with astigmatism, the cornea has a more oval (like an American football); that makes spreading the light over. The result is a blurred image on the retina which difficult vision at any distance for people with astigmatism.Contrary to what is often believed, reading in low light, try the view or sit too close to the TV are not causes of astigmatism. Astigmatism often present from birth and may remain stable or worsen over time. Injuries, diseases or eye surgeries may also be causes of astigmatism.
