In the human eye, the cornea focuses images refracting the light that enters the eye on the retina (back of the eye). In an eye with perfect form, the cornea enjoys a curvature evenly and smoothly and has the shape of a round ball. Eyes with astigmatism, the cornea has a more oval (like an American football); that makes spreading the light over. The result is a blurred image on the retina which difficult vision at any distance for people with astigmatism.
